SUBJECT: From Luigi!!!

I hope you still remember me. It was 1998 when I came to Southampton. I had long hair, a guitar in hand and I was living my year as exchange student in Southampton. If I think at Southampton now, it is not Matt Le Tissier that I remember. Rather, my Southampton is the Candle Club and the wonderful time I spent there singing Bella Ciao, O’ Sarracino, Funiculí Funiculá!
It was great and I really miss you a lot. I am in Rome now still playing although I moved to violin. I had a great band until one year ago in Bologna. You can download some good music from this site: http://stage.vitaminic.it/i_picari Some of you will surely remember the tunes and melodies I was playing in Talkin Heads. I miss you a lot, my friends and be sure that we will meet again!

Luigi

SUBJECT: Greetings from Sweden

Hi all you guys that are organising the candle club every Monday. The former Swedish porn star is now back where it once began. I'm practising my guitar and vocal skills for one purpose only. Maybe one day when I grow up I will rock so hard that even Talking Heads would offer me a gig ;). That's the main goal in my life.
I wanna thank you ever so much for all the great Mondays. Keep up the good work. I'll be back in December or January just to present something at the uni and I will make sure it will be on a Monday... Then I'll be sitting on the front row again, soaking up every lovely tune.
My friend made a pdf collage the last day I played. I know we're not legends to you but I think it's worth sending it. At least Kim is in there. That's a true legend.
Hasta luego amigos.
//Former Swedish porn star Christian still without hair.

SUBJECT: Halo to steve lois, mark, holly, george and all you other crazy cats.

Richy Burnett here. (do you know i have ben checking out the 'heads' website every week since i can remember and i didn't realise there was a seperate candle club website, so this is where you hide all the phot's!)

I hope that you are all well, i will be back in town for a while on the 18th, so i shall endeavour to come down see you all, As you are all probably aware Mark has been working hard for the 'Access fest' gigs and i hear that they are going well, if i can be as bold as to plug some thing here, there will be another gig at 'The soul cellar' i believe on the 19th so come down its all set to be a great show. ( oh and ahem...i should be there too!.)

To steve, i hope all is well with uni, etc, hi pete.

Mark, excited man...excited...

George, =)

Holly, halo you crazy lady!
And anyone else i forgot, take it easy, i look forward to coming home.

The candle club is a fantastic venue, i think it really is a blessing, for all performing artists that there is somewhere like this to play, it's also crucial in keeping music about music. so keep banging out the tunes guys i think there are big things set to come out of southampton.

Enough of my drivvel, ;)

Richy

Subject: Lazy

Hi this is Simeon your friendly (?) compere. Having browsed through this site it appears that we have come to a grinding halt, but I can assure you we haven't. As we are now growing older day by day, things like getting up and tying our shoelaces become the priority, all other daily tasks become lost in the confusion of thinking about surviving another day? But please keep writing in and we will respond, there's life in the old bastards yet!

Let me just send, from everyone connected to the club, our get well wishes to our one and only 'Rockin' Roger'. Lets hope for a speedy recovery.

Seeya Sim

Subject: It's me! Luigi from Mediterraneo

hi Sim, Clive, Richard, Steve, Mike, Ritchie...and so on!

how are you? how is candle club this year? it's a long time you do not have my news: so I'm actually engaged in doing italian civil service. It has been 10 long months working in a pretty office for CGIL (the italian workers union). It's only 3 days to go, so i'm quite happy! I finished my degree in economics in March, and I have joined a Master Course in Development Economics last November. I am playing in a drinking band in Bologna, but we never finish a session without getting absolutely drunk! I started playing violin too, and I am doing quite crap at this moment! i hope candle club still keeps the great atmosphere I will always remember. I miss you all! Happy new year, and I really hope to see you back, somewhen, somehow, somewhere... I give you my address... lots of "bella ciao" luigi

Hi there everyone!

Its Rob Kinsella just to let you all know that I survived the rest of my time at Uni and am now living and working in Bath. I've kind of finished with the poetry because above all else I think it was more a catharsis thing for me, still I hope you enjoyed the doom and gloom. Its good to see that your still running, I hope everything has developed well for you. I'm currently shopping round for a band to join or form but really work is the priority. I'm a music journalist! Well, thats about it really but I must say that it would be good to come down and do something for you guys in the future.

Take care. Rob Kinsella.

ps. DONT MISTAKE LACK OF TALENT FOR GENIUS

Hi Clive ,Chris here ,sims friend ,romsey beggars fair etc Speaking to sim about the candle club webpage and what it might contain a few ideas came to mind links to music websites sound clips of performances receiving newsletter, info etc by email networks of musicians locally eg melting pot (Nick and Cath ,Souls of Fire ,)times and locations of sessions in the neighbourhood like the Irish sessions at Talking Heads and Bent Brief a library of peoples(audience and musicians) favourite tunes songs on midi and pics of sheetmusic So with this in mind here are two web sites that I have been using and also a couple of tunes as midis and some pics of music as notes People could scan music from books and send it to you for inclusion but you may or may not worry about copyright and lack of originality

http://ecf-guest.mit.edu/~jc/music/abc/findtune.html mostly folk tunes from all around Europe america

http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/tab.html Guitar tabulature folky/pop

hi Mike, it's a long time i do not hear you. Last time i received your e-mail, you wrote me a LOVE LETTER. Fortunately my office PC does not have microsoft outlook, so that I had only a couple of files lost...no other problem. I'm in the last week of work now. Next week I'll be around Italy visiting hammered friends. On the 22nd I'm leaving to Portugal for a 12 days trip with my girlfriend. I hear many of my mates from Southampton. They all finished Univeristy this year: it could be very sad for me to come back there now! I hope you are always in the Candle Club on monday. Say hello from me to Sim, Syd, Richard and Clive. I hope to hear you soon luigi ...by the way...Lecce sold Lima to Bologna but Lucarelli and Sesa are going to stay in Lecce for another year. I'm very happy!!

Subject: Hello from Canada, Tim! This is Robin, from Nature's Children, just dropping you a quick line from Canada's capital city, Ottawa. I've be in this beautiful country since August, and I'm coming back in August. I can't believe it's beeen this long. I went to an open stage the other night and brought half my hostel to see me play. During my set the staff began snapping phots and the boss of the place told me he was putting it in the Ottawa Express. Sadly, the camera screwed up and, luckily I have a gig on Saturday, and they are re-doing the pictures. I can't believe I'm getting in the paper. Sound! Hope all is well at the Heads. I often check out the Candleclub web page, but it doesn't seem to change much, does it? I have spread the word about the Heads. In Toronto I used to do an open stage night every Monday and tell them stories of the crazy little place in Southampton. Take it easy and kick James in the arse for me. Hope to see you in the summer around Fairport Convention time? I cannot believe Swarbrick is playing and I'm here, missing it. Say hello from a dedicted Fairport fan.

Allagoo from Canada!

Robin
